The European Network for Public Ethics welcomes two new members
Aimed at promoting public integrity and transparency, the European Network for Public Ethics was created in June 2022 at the initiative of the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life, which chairs it. It brings together 15 authorities from European Union’s Member States, which regularly exchange views on public ethics issues.
On March 5, 2024, at a virtual meeting of members, the Network welcomed two new entities: the Cypriot Independent Authority Against Corruption (IAAC) and the Hungarian Integrity Authority. Both created in 2022, these authorities have prevention, information and awareness-raising missions in the fight against of corruption.
The meeting gave members an opportunity to discuss recent developments in European legislation. They discussed the ongoing discussions concerning the preventive aspect of the directive on combating corruption (article 3), presented by the European Commission on May 3, 2023, and the institutional contours, not yet finalised, of the European Ethics Body presented by the European Commission on June 8, 2023.
This sixth meeting was also an opportunity to take stock of the Network’s activities. The common minimum standard concerning the reporting obligations of public officials, adopted at the Network’s last meeting in Ljubljana in October 2023, was sent to the European institutions.
Italy has also volunteered to host the next meeting of the Network in Rome in October 2024.
